Protecting Human Rights in Fiji

The Commission's "Complaints" division's functions are:

  • to receive complaints of allegations of breaches of human rights or unfair practices;

  • to classify these complaints;

  • to investigate these complaints;

  • to resolve these complaints by conciliation and to refer unresolved complaints to the Commission's "Legal" division for court action; and

  • to refer complaints to the necessary ministry or department if the complaint is not within the Commission's jurisdiction.

It is important to note that the Commission can only assist you in your complaints of allegations of breaches of human rights. It is therefore to your advantage that you understand more about the area's of human rights that the Commission has jurisdiction over.

The Commission protects Human Rights mainly through the Complaints and Legal Divisions.
